The International Federation of Surveyors has opened the Call for papers for its annual FIG Working Week 2016.

FIG Working Week, 2-6 May 2016, Christchurch, New Zealand, is an exciting week-long conference that brings the international community of surveying professionals together to share innovative science with policymakers and stakeholders. Scientists, policy- and decision-makers, students, and stakeholders are invited to join the discussions on issues affecting the international surveying and spatial community today and in the future.

One of the important and unique features of FIG is its capability to cover the entire spectrum of the surveying profession reflected by the range of the FIG ten technical commissions.

Cadaster and Land Administration; Hydrography; Earth Geodynamics; Valuation; Real Estate; use of SIM; reference frames/datums; deformation measurement; BIM are among the topics that welcome abstract submissions.

The overall theme for this Working Week is Recovery from Disaster. New Zealand is a (relatively) geologically active country with a history of seismic events and post-earthquake Christchurch is an ideal location from which to consider this theme. Many inhabitants throughout the World face various kinds of disasters, apart from earthquakes as in Christchurch, such as flooding, storm events, tsunamis, drought, the after effects of conflict etc. that are a world-wide challenge, especially taking the effects of climate change into consideration. Disasters, natural or otherwise, directly impact surveyors and spatial professionals and their work on the land, under the seas, in the air and in space.

FIG Working Week relies on coordinated contributions from an international network. The FIG Working Week offers a perfect meeting place for scientists, presenting the latest state-of-the-art knowledge, and policy-managers and stakeholders, who are dependent on this scientific information in their daily work.

The deadline for submission of abstracts and full papers for peer review is 1 October 2015 and abstracts for non-peer-review is 15 November 2015.
